A NEW community radio station will take centre stage when the Christmas lights are switched on in Bedlington on Thursday.

Families will be treated to free mince pies, hot drinks, prize giveaways and a live singer, with volunteers from Koast Radio on duty to make sure the atmosphere builds to a crescendo.

The lights display will be switched on in the Market Place during an event which kicks off at 4pm.

Children from local schools have each been given a free raffle ticket and the winning youngster will be asked to turn on the lights.

Vicky Oakley of Koast Radio said: “Some of our presenters will be mingling in the crowd, giving away sweets, mince pies and hot drinks.”
