It's one of the North East's most recognisable landmarks and one of Britain's most historical - plus it could help win the region free promotion to tourists visiting the UK.

Ahead of a competition to win £1 million of advertising at Heathrow Airport closing on August 4 we've published 11 stunning pictures of Hadrian's Wall.

Taken from different vantage points in the surrounding Northumberland countryside this is a rallying cry for the North East to take a moment out of their summer holiday and help our region.

Currently the image of Hadrian's Wall on the Heathrow Airport page is leading the way with 5,600 likes, but needs to hold off competition from the likes of Northern Ireland and the Midlands.

We need our readers to be part of the groundswell of support to keep the momentum going, logging onto Facebook via below and clicking like on the picture of Hadrian's Wall.

And businesses across the North East have also joined the campaign, including Newcastle Airport
