Beam me up, Shakespeare! Led by ex-Star Trek star Patrick Stewart, the cast of The Tempest took a break from their rehearsals.

Stewart, along with Mariah Gale and John Light, is performing in the RSC production at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle, this week.

The Tempest is the final show in the RSC's 2006 Newcastle residency. The company has played to houses at Northern Stage for Much Ado About Nothing and King John and the Theatre Royal for Romeo and Juliet.

Stewart plays lead character Prospero, who lives on a remote island after being cast out to sea 12 years ago.

He is joined on the island by daughter Miranda, played by Mariah Gale, who also took part in the photoshoot.

The Tempest runs at the Theatre Royal until Saturday.

This production is sold out.
