Pop act Pop! will be getting "serious" at a Newcastle nightclub later this month.

Times Square venue Powerhouse will play host to the act on January 21.

Pop! have been labelled the new Steps and include North East singer Jamie Tinkler, who made it to the final 50 in the second Pop Idol.

Steps creator and hit-maker Pete Waterman is their manager and has signed the band to a four-album record deal.

Their performance at Powerhouse follows on from the release of their latest single, Serious, yesterday.

Serious is their third single, following on from Heaven and Earth and Can't Say Goodbye.

Admission to the Powerhouse performance is £10 (£8 with a flyer) and it is a non-ticketed event.

The group will perform on the Powerhouse stage at midnight and then will meet fans in Zinc bar for an exclusive signing session.

Pop! are the first band to play Powerhouse in 2005. Last year was extremely successful year for the club after attracting some of the biggest names in pop, including Girls Aloud, Holly Valance, Liberty X, Lisa Scott-Lee, Nadia and Westlife.

Promoter Chris Gilroy says: "Pop! are an ideal band to perform at Powerhouse. Their music is very cool, very camp, and energy-fuelled.

"The band members are very friendly, extremely talented and all of them are drop-dead gorgeous! It's a great way to start 2005."
