Russell Watson will bring a choir and lorryload of candles to the North East later this year.
The best-selling classical singer has booked a UK tour of candlelit Christmas concerts in cathedrals (rumours that its working title was the ‘alliteration tour’ have not been confirmed), and is kicking things off at Durham Cathedral in November.
He said: “This will be my first Christmas tour. I’m really excited to be performing in what will be a unique experience for me, just to piano in an intimate environment in the glorious surroundings of some of the most prestigious Cathedrals and Minsters in the UK.”
Having sold in excess of seven million albums, courtesy of his nine studio long-players over the years, Russell is the UK’s most successful classical artist - boasting four Classical Brit Awards as well as collaborations with an eclectic bunch including Pavarotti, Lionel Richie, Alexandra Burke, Ashanti, Michael Bolton, Cliff Richard, Lulu, Sarah Brightman, Mel B and Meatloaf. Now there’s a dream dinner party for you.
He has triumphed over two life-threatening brain tumours and remains the poster boy for classical crossover.
The upcoming tour will see him collaborate with a choir for a goodwill soaked setlist sure to get everyone in the mood for mince pies and Santa.
