John Wilson back to conduct on home turf

The Royal Northern Sinfonia will perform American classics in the next Classic FM concert at Sage Gateshead

John Wilson will be back on his Gateshead home turf this month to conduct the resident Royal Northern Sinfonia in an American extravaganza.

The local lad always goes down a storm at the Sage and on January 18 he will wield the baton in American Dream, his latest concert for Classic FM.

On the programme will be pieces by John Adams, Gershwin, Copland, Barber and Bernstein – all no doubt delivered with customary pizzazz.

Joining John and the orchestra on the Hall One stage will be pianist Leon McCawley.

Often performing here with his own John Wilson Orchestra, John will be back in March for a concert featuring another North East lad, Sir Thomas Allen, who will perform traditional songs and arias from English operettas.

Tickets for the January concert via 0191 443 4661 (a bus service has been laid on from Alnwick and Hexham – £7.50 return)
