Top notch all rounder, John Barrowman will play a gig at Sage Gateshead next June.
The You Raise Me Up tour will come to Hall One on June 8 in support of his new album of the same name, which is released on June 30 this year.
The album was innovatively funded by his fans, thanks to PledgeMusic’s Direct to Fan platform. It will feature new arrangements of many of the popular singer’s favourite songs, including Mandy, Bridge Over Troubled Water, A Thousand Years, and the title track.
“I’m so excited to be touring again, that I’m choreographing songs and arranging stories in my sleep,’ says John, who was recently awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours and who possibly ticks more entertainment career boxes than there actually are.
“This album has been a thrilling personal journey for me,” he adds. “Each lyric, each melody means something special. I can’t wait to perform them live for all my fans who helped fund You Raise Me Up.”
As well as enjoying success as a solo artist and leading musical theatre performer (Miss Saigon, The Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard and Matador would be a few productions in which he has starred), many will know John from his small screen roles as Malcolm Merlyn (aka the Dark Archer) in Arrow and Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who and its spin off Torchwood.
In addition, he has also crafted himself a sideline in presenting via shows like Tonight’s The Night, the upcoming John Barrowman’s Pets With Problems, to say nothing of his work as an author.
No wonder he says: “I’ve got lots to celebrate with my fans on this You Raise Me Up Tour. Let’s raise these theatre roofs together.”
