Dance music duo Chase and Status have joined the star-studded line up to celebrate the Great North Run’s millionth finisher.
The multi-platinum selling act will join the likes of Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler for the Great North Run Million Opening Ceremony on September 4.
The event, put together by Bradley Hemmings, artistic director of the London 2012 Paralympic Opening Ceremony, showcases the best of both local and international talent.
Festival favourites Chase and Status will close the spectacle, which marks the Bupa Great North Run becoming the first running event in the world to hit a record-breaking one millionth finish.
Mercury prize-nominated Northumberland folk duo The Unthanks have also joined the line-up, and will be performing a piece specially commissioned for the event.
Another local lass, Jill Halfpenny, will provide commentary, narrating acclaimed North East author David Almond’s new script.
Jill said she was “so excited to be a part of this special celebration that will be a world-first”.
Tickets are on sale for the event - which will be broadcast on BBC2 - at www.gnrmillion.org priced at £12 for adults and £7 for children.
Free tickets are available for everyone who has ever entered the Bupa Great North Run at www.greatrun.org/ticket_giveaway.
