Liverpool musician John O’Connell is bringing his Simply Dylan show to the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre on November 18.

The show is billed as John’s “personal exploration and celebration of the rich and diverse work of Bob Dylan”.

He and his Dylan Band, comprising musicians from his home city, are taking the show on the road for the first time in the UK.

They have been buoyed by the success of sell-out gigs at Liverpool’s Cavern Club, a Spanish tour and a one-off performance in London.

John O’Connell is a big name on the Merseyside music scene, both as a founder member of popular band Groundpig and – since the death of co-founder Graham Evans – as a solo performer.

Nothing if not versatile, John studied classical guitar and has spanned the genres, performing music by artists including James Taylor, The Pogues, The Killers and, of course, Dylan, a lifelong influence.

His Dylan show heads for the Newcastle venue with this promise: “Simply Dylan is as straightforward as the title suggests - no frills, no gimmicks, no pretence.”

Tickets go on sale on Wednesday at 9am. Credit card booking via 0844 4939999 or check www.millvolvotynetheatre.co.uk
