Newcastle's Blackfriars Restaurant to host cake decorating workshop

Budding cake decorators can hone their skills on a special weekend long event taking place at Blackfriars in Newcastle.

North East Sugar Crafter of the Year Emma Bell – who bakes the celebratory cakes at the restaurant and Banquet Hall for events including weddings, christenings and graduations - will be hosting a two day cake decorating workshop on November 22 and 23.

The workshop, which runs from 10am -4pm on both days, will look at a variety of ways to ice an eight inch cake just like the professionals do, and will also include coffee, tea and lunch as well as all materials.

Attendees can choose from a one-day workshop for £90 or a two-day session for £180. 

Further workshops are being planned in the coming months for amateurs’ right through to more professional bakers and cake decorators.

Emma, who lives in Stanley was awarded the title of Sugar Crafter of the Year at the North East Culinary and Trade Association (NECTA) Sugarcraft Awards which took place at the Civic Centre in May. 

She says: “I’m really looking forward to running my own workshops at Blackfriars. Cake decorating is hugely rewarding and is a skill that can transform any celebratory event with a fantastic cake that can be admired by all the guests, giving a real sense of occasion.  I’m really excited to be sharing my knowledge and skills with customers.”
