A Tyneside bar is boxing clever with the launch of its latest culinary venture.

Osbornes Bar and Kitchen in Jesmond has joined forces with food emporium Ninety Nine on Grey Street in Newcastle to open Ninety Nine@Osbornes.

Based within the Osborne Road bar, the menu not only features dishes inspired by cuisine from countries as far afield as Japan and Lebanon, but also introduces customers to the concept of box meals.

These are dishes served in a box which unfolds to form a plate.

Among the international delicacies on offer are Portuguese chicken with sweet potato fries, coleslaw and a choice of salads; the Greek Zeus box of marinated lamb lollipops with tie-in salads and the Japanese Katzu box, comprising breaded chicken with katzu sauce, infused brown rice and wasabi coleslaw.

A choice of cold pasta salads with pesto sauces and ingredients such as salmon, chicken, bacon and blue cheese, is also on offer, while those looking for a meatier main course can opt for hand pressed burgers with side dishes.

Diners can also choose from a menu of grilled dishes, which include whole chicken with garlic, lemon and thyme.
