Following Mother’s Day back in March, we’ll soon have the opportunity to say thank you to dads too, when Father’s Day comes around on June 21.
If you’re yet to pick up a gift or dream up an enjoyable way to spend the day, do not panic. As you’d expect from a region full of top quality eateries, a whole host of North East restaurants are offering Father’s Day menus and events to mark the occasion.
For food-loving dads in Sunderland look no further than the Stadium of Light, which is planning the father of all feasts.
Anthony Fenton explains: “1879 Events will be hosting Father’s Day lunches in the Montgomery Suite and Riverview Brasserie – each will have its own three-course menu, specially prepared by our award-winning chefs. The Montgomery Suite is ideal for dads who are fans of Sunderland AFC, while the Brasserie offers a stunning view of the River Wear and a glass of champagne too.
“The menu includes plenty for fathers to feast on, such as homemade fishcakes with buttered spinach and crab bisque; pot roasted breast of chicken and tarragon jus; and chocolate orange truffle served with Chantilly cream and berries.”
Alternatively, for North East fathers who love good food and lots of it, Beamish Hall is the place to be – they’re running a ‘Fathers vs Food Challenge’.
Kerry McCabe from Beamish Hall says: “If your dad’s up for it, sign him up and he’ll have the chance to win a mini cask of ale from The Stables microbrewery if he completes it in the fastest time. The food he’ll need to conquer includes a beef burger, six rashers of smoked bacon, four fried eggs, French fries, onion rings, coleslaw and much more.”
Meanwhile, a great city centre option for lunch is the stylish Bonbar, just across from Central Station.
Bonbar’s Daniela Sardone says: “From noon until 6pm we’ll be celebrating Father’s Day with our ‘Dine with Dad’ offer – two courses for £14.50 or three for £18.50. Dad will of course be treated to a free pint too. All the Sunday favourites will be on the menu, such as half roast chicken and roast Northumbrian sirloin of beef with all the trimmings.”
