Durham Gin is to be sold throughout Majestic’s UK stores as part of a seasonal deal.
The alcoholic beverage, which is made by the Durham Distillery, has been chosen as the wine retailer’s Summer Guest Gin.
Durham Gin will also be available from Majestic’s website.
The gin produced at Langley Park on the outskirts of Durham, is one of the UK’s fastest growing craft spirit brands, and was already stocked by Majestic – the nation’s largest wine retailer - in all its branches between Berwick and Harrogate in North Yorkshire.
But this latest news will now see all of Majestic’s 195 UK stores stocking Durham Gin over the coming months.
Durham Distillery only started making the gin in 2014, selling 10,000 bottles in its first year.
The Majestic deal will see sales increase to over 20,000 bottles this year.
Jon Chadwick, Durham Distillery’s managing director, says: “This is fantastic news for the distillery. To get such a massive deal less than 18 months from starting is a huge achievement for the team. It shows that demand for craft spirits goes from strength to strength in the UK.”
Distiller Jessica Tomlinson adds: “Doubling production each year is an enormous challenge, but it’s a great challenge to have.”
The distillery also produces the triple distilled Durham Vodka, made in the same handmade copper still - known affectionately as Lily – as the gin, and which was specially imported from Portugal.
