Putting a spin on the idea of “arthouse” films, Tyneside Cinema is to present an exhibition on the big screen as part of a worldwide link-up from the National Gallery in London.

Art-lovers can get up close and personal with the work of Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer as part of a scheme to connect worldwide audiences with the work of famous artists. The Newcastle cinema joins around 70 venues in the UK, and thousands across the globe, to show Vermeer and Music: the Art of Love and Leisure at 7pm on Thursday.

The film, shot in London, Europe and America, will show paintings, such as the iconic Girl with a Pearl Earring, in high-definition against a live soundtrack by the Academy of Ancient Music to immerse viewers in the artist’s life in 17th Century Netherlands. Visit www.tynesidecinema.co.uk
