Culture Awards: Nadine Shah brought the awards to a close with a duo of songs

The Whitburn-born singer, who was named as Performing Artist of the Year says she is looking forward to moving back home

When singer songwriter Nadine Shah agreed to headline The Journal Culture Awards 2014, the judging session where who was to win what was decided hadn’t happened yet.

So we didn’t know that she was going to be crowned Performing Artist of the Year.

Isn’t it lovely when things just fall right?

Fresh - or perhaps that should read ‘exhausted’ - from a set at (and associated enjoyment of) Glastonbury at the weekend, the Whitburn-born singer was delighted to be back on home turf.

Her parents were also thrilled to be watching from the pews.

As well as performing two tracks, Matador and Divided from her acclaimed second album, Fast Food, Nadine also used her time on stage to announce that she’s be moving back to the North East after spending the past 13 years in London, concluding that it was nights like these which confirm her decision.

And we couldn’t be happier to have her back.
