Culture Awards: Hyde and Beast with the Whitburn Singers took to the Sunderland Minster stage

The Sunderland band - Dave Hyde and Neil Bassett - missed out on the Performing Artist of the Year award, but performed a more than memorable set

Sunderland band Hyde and Beast had quite the 2014.

Having released their second album, Keep Moving, the band - former Futurehead Dave Hyde and one time Golden Virgin, Neil Bassett - enjoyed a raft of fine reviews and live performances.

Nominated in the category of Performing Artist of the Year - which singer Nadine Shah went on to win - on Tuesday night, the assembled audience got to see one of these performances in the close quarters confines of Sunderland Minster.

The band were joined for two of the numbers by local choir, The Whitburn Singers who provided backing vocals on Pictures in the Sky and Open Your Heart.

Safe to say the crowd loved every minute of the performance, which served to open the second half of The Journal Culture Awards 2014.
