Culture Awards 2009: Best Event Northumberland

Winner - Re-garrisoning of Hadrian's Wall

ARMIES of Romans, Vikings, Roundheads, Cavaliers and Border Reivers combined their efforts in the re-garrisoning Hadrian's Wall during the May half term holidays in 2009.

The Living Frontier featured around 500 re-enactors in events at sites all along the Wall, with the highlight being a 90-minute pageant in Corbridge, which brought together all performers and re-enactors in a spectacular show of music, drama, and technical wizardry.

FINALIST – Brinkburn Music Festival

Beautiful and beautifully appointed Brinkburn Priory in Northumberland once again provided the backdrop for classical music in July, including a performance from Gabrieli Consort & Players of Haydn's The Creation

FINALIST – Traces and Graces

Inspired by stories and memories of a rarely seen Lutyens house and Jekyll garden in Whalton, this dance theatre performance was conceived and directed by Cinzia Hardy.
