A husband and wife team who set up a business around their home-developed remedy treatment, are aiming for overseas markets eight months after launching the firm.

Lisa and Mark Kelly founded Unique Natural Products after formulating a cream to soothe the symptoms of haemorrhoids from their Gateshead home, a product which has now been granted approval as a cosmetic by the Government’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) as 99% natural and made predominantly from plant extracts.

Since launching in November, in excess of 2,500 products have been sold, and the aim is to increase sales and their customer base of 2,000 within the next 12 months, by listing the product on Amazon and having websites created for Spain, Germany, Italy and France.

A dedicated website selling the cream was recently launched and the couple operate from a unit at Blaydon Business Centre, which is run by Gateshead Council.

Mark said “We hope to grow the business and are working on our future plans, which include selling through retail outlets and pharmacies and growing our customer base internationally.”
