An entrepreneurial father and son are winning business from as far afield as Russia, New Zealand and Australia with their new postal service.

Darlington-based POBoxes.com is the brainchild of Anthony Redpath and his son Alex who have already built up a 250-strong global client base since the firm’s launch in January this year.

The pair set up the company with £15,000 of their own cash. Around £7,000 was then invested in their new website.

The company, which is picking up on average one customer a day, offers postal and call handling services to individuals and businesses that need to keep a permanent address other than their home address.

For professionals working remotely who may not want to use their home as their business address, PO Boxes provides mail scanning and forwarding services as well as a phone answering service and a virtual office service.

It has proved popular among offshore industry workers as well as businesses wishing to take advantage of the Darlington company’s additional address in the Wimbledon district of London.

The company has four staff, two based in London and two in Darlington, but is aiming to create new jobs as the take-up of its services continues to grow.

Alex Redpath said: “We hope to double our number of customers a day by the end of next year and also add another new location.”

Anthony Redpath added: “During my time in business I’ve had many clients and friends who have been working or semi-retired overseas and needed to maintain a postal presence in the UK, so we spotted a gap in the market.

“Ideally, we would like to open offices in other English-speaking countries to be able to offer clients a business presence in their countries. We will most likely look at a franchising model to drive these plans forward. Initially this was an unknown market for us but we have carried out extensive market research and development which has helped to evolve the service we offer today.

“We are extremely excited about our offering and delighted to be at a stage where we are now sharing it with the wider market.”

Anthony Redpath sold his accountancy practice – with three offices and more than 20 staff – to concentrate on SME mergers, acquisitions and business transfers, which he handles through his other business, a2zBusinessBrokers.com.

Alex has a background in technical support and training in the communications industry and recently moved into the business development and entrepreneurial field on the back of some training at DigitalCity in Teesside.

POBoxes.com offers mail and call handling services, specialising in mail forwarding, mail scanning, complete virtual office services and fully personalised phone answering services. It provides secure and discreet online services accessible worldwide.

Clients have the option of reading their mail online via a personalised, password protected mailbox. The company also handles parcels as well as limited company formations and is fully licensed under Data Protection and UK Money Laundering regulations.
