Builders have begun the second phase of a £15m redevelopment of Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club on the outskirts of Durham.

The hotel, which marks its 50th year in business this year, is undergoing a major hotel extension including 47 new guest bedrooms and a 32,500 sqft luxury spa, which will include a 25m swimming pool, four therapy pools including a rooftop hydro pool, six heat and therapy rooms, 10 treatment rooms, two relaxation rooms, a gym and aerobic studio as well as a hair salon and Asian restaurant.

County Durham architects Padgett White have spearheaded the design of the development and builders Walter Thompson expect construction to be completed in around 14 months.

Group MD, John Adamson said: “We’ve had the plans for the hotel extension and a world class spa in the pipeline for six years, so I’m delighted that work has finally started on site.”
