Hundreds of farmers from across Northumberland, Durham, Cumbria and Yorkshire took the opportunity to dress up in style when they attended the Farmers’ Fling Charity Ball at the Shepherds Inn, Carlisle, recently.

It was organised by Gillian Whiteford of Brampton and Corinna Coates of Kirkby Thore near Penrith who called on Carlisle’s H&H auctioneers to help.

Corinna said: “We first did this last year and it was such a success that we wanted to put it on again. We had more than 350 people in attendance and raised £7,000 for Cancer Research UK.”

Lots under the hammer included afternoons teas, weekend breaks and a model farmyard.
