Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart sold 12 prime cattle, 19 OTM cattle , 4 young bulls, 3,012 cast ewes & rams and 6,121 prime hoggs.

Prime heifers to 220.5p for Limousin from Wyseby Hill Cottage. Young bulls to 184.5p for Limousin from Netherton. OTMs to 132.5p for British Blue from Longrow.

Prime hoggs to £128 per head for Texels from Townhead and to 288p per kilo for Texels from Cononbrae.

Heavy ewes to £153 for Texels from East Kirk. Light ewes to £84 for Cheviots from Kirkton. Rams to £160 for Texels from Golden Lane.

Heifers: light to 220.5p (212.8p); medium to 217.5p (186.8p); heavy to 203.5p (203.5p). Young bulls 184.5p (172.7p). Hoggs: light to 255.0p (219.9p); standard to 282.0p (222.9p); medium to 288.0p (218.2p); heavy to 239.0p (203.3p).

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd’s weekly sale of calves saw a lesser quantity but a higher quality, topping the sale at £475 for a fantastic Limousin heifer from Messrs J & CM & CS Chappelhow, High Grounds. Black and whites saw a similar trade to the previous week.

Hopes Auction Co held their weekly sale of Primestock when there was an entry of 95 Cattle, 36 Bulls, and 1217 Prime Sheep including 960 hoggs and 257 Ewes.

Cattle in spec met a strong trade. The top price of 249.5p per kg was paid for a Limousin Heifer shown by Messrs N Dixon, Low Whinnow Farm and was purchased by G Riley, Dunnockshaw. The top price per head for heifers was £1424.63 for a Limousin shown by JJ & J Benson & Son, Kirkland Hall and was purchased by RJ Harrison & Sons, Butcher, King Street, Wigton. Steers sold to a top price of 216.5p which was shown by JJ & J Benson & Son, Kirkland Hall and purchased by. Top price of £1454.00 was paid for a Limousin Steer shown by Messrs Mitchell, Grassknop Farm.

Bulls sold to 221.5p and was paid to D A Harrison, The Old Vicarage for a Limousin. The top price per head was £1473.68 paid for another Limousin Bull shown by DA Harrison, The Old Vicarage.
