Hopes Auction Co, Wigton held their weekly sale of Primestock when there was an entry of 65 Cattle, 22 Bulls and 788 Prime Sheep including Lambs and Ewes.

Cattle met a much sharper demand with all classes sought after. The top price of 258.5 p per kg was paid for a Limousin Heifer shown by J Dixon & Son, Lesson Hall, Wigton and this heifer also made the top price per head for heifers at £1615.34

Steers sold to a top price of 224.5p paid for a Limousin from JG & M Little, Greenhill Farm, Wigton and purchased by M J Wharton, Wholesale Meats, Blackbrow, Wigton. Top price of £1334.57 was paid for a Limousin Steer shown by Messrs Cape, Kirkland Guards, Mealsgate. Bulls sold to 221.5p and was paid to JG & M Little, Greenhill Farm for a Limousin. The top price per head was £1441.25 paid for a Limousin Bull shown by TA Byers, Ellen Bank, Boltongate.

Lambs: Increasing numbers of lambs met a rising trade to meet the highest demand so far this year. More numbers of all weights are required on a weekly basis. The top price per head was £148 paid to BJ Harrison, Beck Farm, Wheyrigg, Wigton for Dutch Texels and were purchased by RJ Harrison, Butcher, King St, Wigton.

Pence per kg honours went jointly to DA Harrison, The Old Vicarage, Westnewton for Texels and also to GH & JE Steel, The Laurels for Dutch Texel. They both sold at 339p per kg.

At Borderway, Harrison and Hetherington held their sale of implements, tractors, small tools, shrubs and trees, this sale also included the Annual Vintage sale.

The second sale of the month attracted the largest crowd of buyers seen at Borderway for some time, with over 660 implements and 370 small tools forward all lots sold to exceed vendors expectations. Following on from the implement sale was the annual vintage sale which had a good turnout of enthusiastic buyers, and ensured strong bidding on all quality items.

Harrison and Hetherington held a sale implements on behalf of Messrs FIP & CF Robinsoin of Landyke Farm, Carrutherstown, Dumfries. A big crowd of near and distant buyers attended. Top price of the day was a Massey Ferguson tractor, this 5465 150hp sold to £18,000 to a local neighbor.
