The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 1,475 store hoggs and 115 breeding sheep.

Another fine show was forward and the usual ring of buyers ensured stores remained easily sold at recent high rates.

Breeding sheep topped at £155, three times, for Texel gimmers scanned at 170% from Keith Holm Farm, others £152 and £145 from the same home. Lleyn ewes (correct below) £59 Castle Creavie.

Hopes Auction Co held their weekly sale of Primestock when there was an entry of 79 Cattle 15 Bulls, and 909 Prime Sheep including Ewes.

A similar show of cattle and trade on a par with last week to a top of 249.5p for a 545kg Limousin Heifer from Messrs Lawson & Son, Kirkland Green, Mealsgate purchased by G Riley, Dunnockshaw, Burnley.

The top price per head for heifers was £1651.90 for a Limousin shown by Messrs J Dixon & Son, Lesson Hall.

Steers sold to a top price of 235.5p for Messrs Bowe, Mechi Farm, Blennerhasset with a Limousin. Top gross of £1477.21 was paid for a Limousin Steer shown by Messrs Lawson & Sons, Kirkland Green, Mealsgate.

Bulls sold to 219.5p for a Limousin shown by Messrs Taylor, Fell End, Bewaldeth, who also had the top price per head at £1530.66 paid for a Blonde.

Over Thirty Months cattle sold to 223.5 p per kg paid for a Limousin Steer shown by Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Bothel.

Hoggs - Another good show of Hoggs and again a super trade topping at £136 for a pair of 48kg Texels from Messrs Stoddart, Hillside purchased by David Paisley, Butcher, King St, Wigton.

Export hoggs (36-43kgs) remain most desirable with first cross types 195-210p/kg. Better bred types 225p/kg plus to a top of 316.5p for Messrs Knight, Low Broadleys Farm, Calderbridge.
