HEXHAM

May 16

Hexham & Northern Marts offered 1164 head of store cattle & suckled calves for their third special sale of May. This entry included over 200 head of Angus, Hereford and other native breed cattle for the monthly special sale of these types and they continue to sell well at this centre. Another good entry of older sorts sold well to peak at £1365 for a big Limousin cross steer from Willie Woodman, Great Chesters, while heifers peaked at £1260 for an Angus from John Baty, Catreen. The bulk of the catalogue however was again made up of yearling grazing type cattle consigned this week from noted producers from across Northumberland, County Durham & Cumbria. The best end of these cattle continue to sell well, especially well-bred steers however heifers were harder to cash, the poorer, smaller end in particular.
