Store & breeding sheep - An increased entry of 286 hoggs were forward with trade buoyant with a top call of £66 for a pen of mules from Messrs Gate, Low House, Cockermouth.

Breeding Sheep: Ewes and lambs saw a marvelous trade with more being present and meeting a good response helped with the sun shining. Top of the day was £73 from S Bowe, Midtown Farm, Wiggonby

In lamb sheep attracted a good company of interested buyers, all classes proved good to sell and short of requirements.

In lamb ewes carrying triplets to £125 for Texel from West Shipley who also sold Swaledale at £100; Suffolk cross £106 Muirfield who also sold Greyface at £100. Hill Cheviots scanned twins to £81 Mid Harrietsfield, £77 Priesthaugh. Hill Cheviots scanned singles to £71 Mid Harrietsfield, £66 Priesthaugh.

Border Livestock Exchange sold 149 Prime Cattle including 41 Cows; 335 Store Cattle; 972 Prime Lambs; 341 Ewes and 80 Breeding Sheep. Prime Cattle were a similar trade as the previous week with Aberdeen Angus Cross Steers and Heifers selling to 390p per kg to Well Hung & Tender, Berwick upon Tweed.
Continental Cross Heifers sold to 390p per kg and £1,825 per head. Cull Cows were also a similar price with heavy Pure Bred Charolais Cross Cows selling to £1,644 per had.
Prime Lambs sold to 430p per kg for Romney and Texel Crosses from Hallrule, Bonchester Bridge; Humbleton, Wooler and Brackenside, Berwick upon Tweed respectively.
In the Store Cattle department the firm had one of its busiest weeks. Yearling Steers and Heifers were constantly selling in excess of £1,000. Stronger types (20 months) sold to £1,365 per head ex farm. More are required to keep up with demand.
