Name: Philip Barnes
Company: Group land director Barratts
As a thought leader in the construction and housing industry Philip Barnes said his use of social media as a tool to highlight key industry news could be one of the reasons why he’s been nominated in The Journal’s search for the North East’s Most Influential in Social Media.
His use of social media is limited to Twitter and his Blog (http://philipbarnesblog.wordpress.com/) but the group land director for Barratts Developments said they are key to influencing Barratt’s key stakeholders.
He spends 20 minutes a day on his Twitter account but those precious minutes help him to keep up to date with the key topics in his industry. While he himself posts tweets which include links to additional information, articles and ideas about the sector.
He said: “I follow 400 people who are always posting interesting things and if I come across anything I will read it, put my own interpretation on it and hope it is useful to other people. Tweets are a signpost to something else. My tweets have something with them, like an article. It is not the 140 characters which is of interest it is the link with the tweet.”
Philip, who joined Barratts in June following 20 years with planners Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners, follows a number of industry big hitters including Persimmon Homes.
Philip’s top five recommendations include:
James Ramsbottom - @NECCTwiTER
Brian Aitken - @brianjnled
