LIMOUSIN SALE

July 4

Wilodge Eyecandy from Christine Williams made 9,000gns and led the British Limousin Cattle Society Breeders’ Sale hat Harrison & Hetherington’s Borderway Mart, Carlisle.

The January 2009-born Eyecandy is by the Mas Du Clo son Milbrook Tanko and is out of the herd’s famous cow Ravenelle. She was sold with her heifer calf at foot Wilodge Icandy, a Wilodge Fastrac November 2013-born daughter. Purchasing the top price was Kedzlie Farm Ltd, Blainsie, Lauderdale, for their Swalesmoor pedigree herd.

The Wilodge consignment, offering some top-quality and proven bloodlines from this high-achieving and noted herd, pulled in a big crowd of new and established breeders.

At the close of the sale, 13 Wilodge cows, served and/or with calves at foot averaged a fine £6,663.

This Limousin breeders’ sale saw consignments from the Grahams, Whinfellpark, Wilodge, Eves and Barrons herds respectively.

Fifteen lots/outfits in all made 5,000gns or more with the sale grossing £203,350 for the lots sold. The Whinfellpark offering topped at 8,000gns while the lead price from the Grahams consignment was 7,000gns.

Wilodge Exotic made 6,500gns when selling to the Harestone herd of Mr NR Barclay, Insch, Aberdeenshire. The May 2009-born Exotic is the first daughter to be offered at sale from the famous Wilodge Vantastic’s full sister, WilodgeVavanelle, whose progeny have sold up to £30,000.

The cow and calf outfit of Wilodge Eyewitness and her bull calf Wilodge Iwitness made a combined 8,200gns.

Wilodge Eyewitness at 6,000gns was another purchase for Kedzlie Farm Ltd. 2009-born, this embryo calf is by Ronick Gains, a half-brother to Broadmeadows Cannon, and is another out of Ravenelle.

The Banbury-based herd of Smiths of Bloxham Ltd, Newlands Farm, Bloxham, were back in action as buyers and snapped up the seven-year-old Wilodge Crystal.

Again full of breeding, Wilodge Crystal is a full sister to the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus. By the prolific Wilodge Tonka, Crystal is out of the Cannon-sired daughter Wilodge Priceless.

She was sold in-calf to Gerrygullinane Glen. Purchasing her heifer calf at foot Wilodge Ingot, by Wilodge Enrico, was P Darlington, Spring Farm, Crewe, Cheshire, for 2,000gns.

The same purchasers also picked up Wilodge Coblahdi, another seven-year-old cow, along with her bull calf at foot for 5,000gns. Wilodge Coblahdi is by the French-bred sire Toubib and is out of the Oxygene-sired Wilodge Soblahdi.

In an imaginative piece of marketing, Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Clifton, Penrith, offered the pick of the 2013-born heifers sired by the world record priced 120,000gns bull Dolcorsllwyn Fabio from their Whinfellpark herd.

This special offering saw bidding quickly rise to 8,000gns with the pick of the heifers being secured by Boden & Davies Ltd for their Sportsmans Herd based at Mellor Hall Farms, Mellor, Stockport.

The 28 lots on offer from the Whinfellpark herd saw an overall gross of £51,660 realised.
