Emily Hunter takes top title at Borderway Mart

Borderway Mart in Carlisle was the venue for Harrison and Hetherington’s annual Young Handlers and Spring Lamb show and sale.

More than 30 youngsters took part in the show which was kindly judged by Paul Barker of Bowood Foods.

The overall champion went to Emily Hunter of Upper Brydekirk, Dumfries, with a tremendous Texel gimmer lamb which went on to achieve the day’s top price per kilo of 290ppk and was purchased by William Bosomworth & Sons, meat wholesalers, Paisley.

Young Handlers aged 11 and under: 1 Emily Hunter, (aged 11); 2 Sarah Hunter, Upper Brydekirk (8); 3 Ellie Henderson, Upper Brydekirk (11); 4 Nathan Gargett, Ruckcroft, (7); 5 Matthew Palmer, Greensyke Farm (11). Young Handlers aged 12 and over: 1 Louise Brough, Kirkbampton (13); 2 Ryan Prouse, Upper Brydekirk (12); 3 Nathan Maughan, Beck Farm (16); 4 Calum Hunter, Upper Brydekirk (13). Champion: Emily Hunter (11).Reserve: Louise Brough(13).
