A FORMER recording studio converted into offices is on offer at Lingfield Point, the business park built out of a wool factory.

The offices at the 107-acre site in Darlington have been created from the original 1950s wool factory buildings.

Originally built as the welfare and training building for the Patons & Baldwins site, the building was the first stop for all new recruits joining the wool factory workforce throughout the 50s and 60s.

From the 1970s the building was used as a recording studio and rehearsal space for many local bands, and more recently was used as council offices until they were vacated during the austerity cuts.

The Studios occupies a prominent location at the entrance to Lingfield Point, next to the Memphis building occupied by the Student Loans Company.

Owner of Lingfield Point, Marchday converted the building in 2007 creating contemporary open-plan office space of just over 11,000 sq ft.

John Orchard Marchday director, said: “We’ve created a cluster of public sector organisations at Lingfield Point including Student Loans Company, NHS, Capita and Darlington Borough Council and have tailored our services to give them exactly what they need.

“In addition, Lingfield Point is proving popular with the private sector too – major engineering services firm AMEC recently moved 500 staff to the impressive 50,000 sq ft ‘Meadow’ building.

“The creative ethos that runs through all of Lingfield Point is clearly on display at Studios. Over the years we’ve worked hard to create something different and special at Lingfield Point; a real community. These buildings are some of the most beautiful, inspiring workplaces in the UK.”

The offices have the use of a 24-hour concierge service, a café bistro, childcare facilities and an artist-in-residence, along with the knitting classes and health and fitness sessions on offer at the award-winning business park.

A £100m masterplan will see the creation of a flagship sustainable mixed community built around the existing business community providing up to 1200 homes, sports facilities, a school, healthcare facilities and public green open space. In the last six years the owners have converted more than 250,000 sq ft of factory space into loft-style offices which are now the workplace of about 2,000 people.
