CHRISTIE + Co in Newcastle is handling the sale of its second Londis store in a matter of weeks.

Both are branded Kellys News and the latest branch to come on the market is in South Shields. The first, which is under offer and expected to complete imminently, is in Sacriston, Co Durham. Kellys News on Fowler Street in South Shields town centre has traded from the same location for the last 35 years.

Andrew Birnie, director at Christie + Co, who is handling the sale, said: “This is a very well known and well regarded business.

“Our client’s family have owned the business for over 16 years and they are now looking to sell in order to retire. The property has recently been fully refurbished and an EPoS system was included, with full back office facility.

“The business currently operates on limited opening hours, which could be extended if required. Average weekly sales are in the region of £9,000 plus lottery sales and commissions.”

He said it was unusual to take on two businesses with the same name at the same time.

“We understand both sets of clients are not related and the only thing they have in common, other than their name, is that they both wish to retire,” said Birnie.
