Newcastle site fits the bill for The Gym Group

A NATIONAL leisure group is taking up residence in Newcastle as part of its UK expansion plans.

A NATIONAL leisure group is taking up residence in Newcastle as part of its UK expansion plans.

The Gym Group has secured 17,000sq ft of space on Benton Road in the former site of fellow national gym group Fitness First.

The site is currently being refurbished and the Gym Group hopes to open in April.

The site will offer state-of-the-art gym equipment, including free weights, resistance and spinning machines in purpose-built facilities which will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Gym Group currently has 30 sites open, seven are being fitting out and 15 are in the development pipeline for 2013.

North East chartered surveyor and property agent Bradley Hall has helped the leisure group acquire its new premises.

Neil Hart, director at Bradley Hall, said: “It’s a fantastic deal for our client, the landlord, and it fits perfectly with the tenant’s expansion plans.

“This sector of the market along with convenience retail continues to flourish. We had national supermarket chains chasing the site along with other gym operators.

“Rates continue to be extremely competitive and many landlords are willing to do deals.”

Thomas Rose, working on behalf of the Gym Group, said: “We are looking for more opportunities across the UK and expect to have secured at least 50 sites by 2013.”
