MERCHANT Place Developments has appointed Andrew Steadman as development director.

He will report to the management board on a range of projects, including the Hitachi Rail Europe project to be developed at Amazon Park, Newton Aycliffe.

Steadman joined Merchant Place Developments in 2009 and has since worked on a number of Merchant Place Developments’ projects across the UK, including the £70m, 450,000sqft development for Hitachi Rail Europe which will be on site later this year.

Fellow director Geoff Hunton said Steadman would be “an extremely capable pair of hands” on all projects, but uppermost on the Hitachi project which has required a great deal of energy and professionalism.

“The board recognises Andrew’s talents and his promotion is well deserved. I will continue to take an active role in the Hitachi development in a chairman’s capacity with Andrew leading the team that is now in place.”

Mr Steadman has worked throughout his career in the North East, including projects such as the refurbishment of Newcastle Playhouse and the redevelopment of the Haymarket Metro Station.
