A PERSONAL trainer is getting fit for business thanks to support from TEDCO Business Centre in Jarrow. Former postman Paul West, 33 from Boldon is limbering up for expansion having relocated his business Eclipse Personal Training into TEDCO's Business Centre in Jarrow.

The self-confessed fitness fanatic gave up a secure position as a postman to set up his own personal training business two years ago and has turned to TEDCO to help him take his business to the next level.

Having operated a mobile business offering one-to-one training sessions, Paul was looking to bring the benefits of personal training to a wider market and needed to find suitable premises where he could run his new bootcamp.

Paul explained: “Personal training is a growing industry and really helps people to adopt a fit and healthy lifestyle, but in reality the cost is prohibitive to many, making it out of reach.

“I wanted a six-week body bootcamp to be able to offer all the benefits of personal training in terms of exercise, diet and healthy eating plans but at a fraction of the typical cost. To do so, I needed a base from which to host the bootcamp sessions. I needed something more permanent and fit for purpose than a church hall or community centre, but as a relatively new business I simply didn't have the means to invest in a private gym.

“The space at TEDCO Business Centre provides the perfect solution for what I need, as clients have access to parking, a managed reception area and the space itself is an attractive place to exercise. It's early days, but I am already running four classes a day, three days a week which are pretty well attended, so I am confident of my business model.

“TEDCO Business Centre manager Amy Doonan has proved a huge help in growing my business, not only offering her advice and support in areas of business where I am unsure, but in allowing me access to one of the centre's rooms, which is a far larger space than the unit I currently rent, I can accept more clients and fuel my business growth without further investment.

“Setting up in the business centre has proved a significant turning point for my business, opening up real opportunities for growth, I only wish I had done so earlier.”

Amy Doonan added: “The centre is home to a real mix of businesses at varying stages of development and Eclipse provides a fantastic addition to our community on site. I am delighted that we have been able to help Paul to pave the way for growth, but he too is helping us, whipping a number of us in to shape as quite a few people based at TEDCO have signed up to his six-week programmes.”

TEDCO Business Centre in Jarrow was purpose built in 1994 to provide a mixture choice of office space and light assembly and manufacturing units.

Managed by TEDCO, the centre is committed to supporting enterprise and helping businesses to succeed. It offers flexible terms, with no long-term contracts and provides 24-hour security, a managed reception service and access to general office equipment in order to reduce costs and overheads for its customers.
