The CLA in the North has welcomed recommendations on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy from the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Efra) Select Committee.

CLA North regional director Dorothy Fairburn said: “We agree with Efra’s recommendation that the Government should not transfer more money from farmers’ direct payments towards environmental and rural development payments until we are sure that additional funds are needed and would provide clear benefits.

“We also support Efra’s backing of ‘dual use’ of land, which will help keep more land in agri-environment schemes and ensure we don’t lose years of environmental gains.”
