Prime Hoggs – A good show of prime sheep were forward for the opening sale of 2014. Demand remains strong although trade was back slightly from last week’s extreme rates to average 183.89ppk and SQQ190.26ppk , which showed a rise of 32ppk compared to the sale last year. Topping the sale twice at £110.80 were two tremendous pens of Beltex cross hoggs consigned by Messrs Dinsdale of High Field, Moreland, Penrith which were purchased by Bowland Foods Ltd and Mr Andrew Dawson. Top price per kilo was 281.5ppk for a pen of Dutch Texels cross hoggs show by Messrs Harrison of Grange Hall, Gt Asby, Penrith and purchased by Mr Andrew Dawson.
