Ws Atkins plc sells Polish business in £2.8m deal

The engineering group runs three North East bases and has sold to Norwegian firm

Engineering group Ws Atkins plc, which operates three North East bases, has sold its Polish business in a deal worth £2.8m.

As the UK’s third largest engineering group, Ws Atkins operates in Newcastle city centre, on Newcastle Business Park and in Stockon-on-Tees.

In a note to shareholders the firm said a deal had been stuck with Norwegian engineering and consultancy business, Multiconsult AS.

Oslo-based Multiconsult AS employs 77 people across Norway and Scandinavia and delivers projects across a range of sectors, including: oil and gas, buildings and properties, industry, transportation, energy and the environment.

The business reported revenue of £5m in the year to March 31 2014. Multiconsult AS’ larger Multiconsult group employs some 1,350 people.

Prof Dr Uwe Krueger, chief executive officer of Ws Atkins plc, said: “The sale of our Polish business is a further step forward in the implementation of our strategy to optimise our portfolio of businesses, and focus our investment in markets where the Group can deliver profitable growth.”

FTSE 250-listed Ws Atkins employs 17,480 people worldwide and reported revenue of £1.75bn for the full year ended March 31, 2014.
