A group which has undergone rapid change following acquisition triumphed as HR&D Team of the Year at the CIPD North East of England Awards 2014.
Virgin Money took the coveted team prize at the grand final of the search for the employers who go that extra mile to help their company.
Organised by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in association with Newcastle-based Nigel Wright Recruitment, and in partnership with The Journal, the annual awards celebrate people who have demonstrated great determination in their recruitment and training processes.
Around 400 people attended the awards ceremony at the Newcastle Gateshead Hilton, hosted by Kim Inglis.
Judges spent weeks poring over entries from across the region before deciding on the winners, which included Virgin Money’s ‘People Team’, who have been heavily focused on the build of the business since buying out Northern Rock in November 2011.
The firm, which has around 2,800 employees, introduced a new HR system this March, providing colleagues and managers with much greater control and access to more information.
The ‘People Team’ successfully implemented new harmonised terms and conditions with 99.6% of colleagues signing up to them.
They also created 250 new roles – representing more than 10% growth for the business – and introduced a new flexible benefits scheme.
In all, seven trophies were handed out over the course of evening which including a fundraising event and a lavish three-course meal.
