THE man dubbed “the king of web standards” by Business Week will be addressing visitors to next year’s Design It Build It conference at the Sage in Gateshead.

Happy Cog design agency founder Jeffrey Zeldman has been unveiled as the keynote speaker at the 2011 Dibi conference, which will be taking place on June 7 and 8 next year.

Attendees from the world of web and beyond will be treated to a talk from one of the first designers, bloggers and independent publishers on the web, who co-founded The Web Standards Project in 1998 and publishes website-maker magazine A List Apart. Zeldman has written two books and founded the multi-city web design conference An Event Apart with Eric Meyer.

Other speakers include freelance designer Faruk Ate§, former BBC staffer Jake Archibald, Dribbble co-creator Rich Thornett, User Interface Engineering’s Jared Spool, Mike Kus, Blaine Cook, Inayaili de Leon, Brad Wright, Jeremy Keith, Lorna Mitchell, Brian Suda and Corey Donohoe.

The event also features a discussion on start-ups on June 7, featuring ideas from investment firms and start-ups.

While a quarter of the spaces on the conference are already taken, tickets go on sale on January 13.
