Robert Forrester of Gateshead based Vertu Motors was one of two big winners from the region at the annual AIM Awards Dinner.
The national awards, the 18th if their kind, were held in London and saw Forrester of Vertu win the Entrepreneur of the Year award, while Utilitywise triumphed in the Best Use of AIM category.
The awards come as the AIM market raised €564m (£478) through company floats during the third quarter of 2013 – almost two and half times more than the amount raised in the same quarter in 2012, PwC has found.
BBC journalist Sophie Raworth presented awards to the very best of the fast growing entrepreneurial companies on AIM, both UK and internationally based.
Paul Mankin, corporate finance partner at the Newcastle office of PwC, sponsor of the Entrepreneur of the Year award in Newcastle added: “The surge in AIM proceeds year on year is further evidence of the fair weather economic conditions which have been on the horizon for so long. It’s clear that entrants old and new have style and substance.
