North East firms are being offered a chance to kick start their exports to Dubai through a UK Trade & Investment competition.
UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) has joined forces with Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and the Millennium Plaza Hotel Dubai to offer three winners the opportunity to visit the country and explore business opportunities.
The competition is open to all North East-based companies which are new to the Dubai market and offers the chance to win a place on a Market Visit to Dubai between December 7 and 12 2014.
Three companies will win a prize that includes return flights between Newcastle and Dubai, five nights’ hotel accommodation with breakfast and up to £2,000 towards market research through UKTI’s Overseas Market Introduction Service (OMIS).
The winners will also be able to benefit from the services of a UKTI International Trade Adviser both before and during the visit, will take part in a reception at the British Embassy in Dubai and have a series of meetings arranged for them during the visit through Dubai’s DTCM and UKTI’s commercial team in Dubai.
Chris Simpson, one of UKTI’s Lead International Trade Advisers, said: “The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the UK’s largest export market in the Middle East with around £4.7bn worth of goods exported there every year. Dubai is one of the key business destinations in the UAE and with improved airline services that are now available it’s even easier for North East companies to access this market.
“Many of the region’s companies are already successfully exporting to Dubai and other markets around the globe and UKTI is committed to helping more companies join the global race and help increase UK exports so that we can reach £1trillion by 2020.
“We hope that this competition will help inspire more to take up the export for growth challenge and would encourage companies to send in their applications.”
Fayha Sultan, marketing manager – commerce at Dubai’s DTCM, said: “Dubai is the gateway and the regional hub to the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Dubai offers state of the art infrastructure, with a dynamic and diversified economy and liberal business laws.
“The opportunities in Dubai are great and available for UK companies and we help connect UK companies to some of these opportunities.
“Dubai will host World Expo 2020 under the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, which will provide 277,000 new job opportunities and will have a positive and comprehensive economic impact on small and medium enterprises since they constitute about 95 per cent of all registered companies in the UAE.”
