Gateshead's Trinity Square experienced its busiest month in December, attracting nearly 380,000 visitors.
It was the £140m development’s second Christmas since opening in May 2013 and visitor numbers increased 28% on last year.
Overall 96,772 people visited Trinity Square’s stores, restaurants and entertainment venues in the week prior to Christmas, an increase of 24,657 from 2013 and Christmas Eve saw 16,922 arrive for last minute gifts.
The development’s busiest day in the build up to Christmas was on November 28, with 19,445 shoppers.
Bosses said a December programme of free events, delivered in partnership with Gateshead Council, and the extension of opening hours over the festive period, helped to boost shopper numbers.
Tony Pickering, centre manager at Trinity Square, said: “We’ve had a fantastic Christmas with the centre seeing its busiest ever day for footfall. Retailers have also reported strong sales figures throughout the period.
“Trinity Square has gone from strength to strength over the past twelve months with the arrival of some great new retail tenants including Select and Skate Shack, enhancing an already strong dining and leisure offering. We’re looking forward to welcoming more new arrivals in 2015.”
