ENTERPRISE agency boss Doug Scott has been honoured by The Queen.
Mr Scott, chief executive of South Tyneside-based Tedco is the only recipient of the annual lifetime achievement in the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise 2010 awards unveiled today.
The prestigious business accolades also saw seven North East businesses and a further two individuals announced as winners of one of the UK’s most prestigious business accolade.
Tedco, the Tyneside Economic Development Company, has been under Mr Scott’s stewardship since 1988.
With an annual budget over £1.5m and more than 30 employees, it is dedicated to enterprising individuals and existing businesses.
His citation for the award reads: “Doug Scott is CEO of a not-for-profit enterprise agency who has made a significant impact on local enterprise development and youth enterprise in the North East for over 20 years in both a paid and a voluntary capacity.
“Many of his enterprise promotion activities were focused on the economically disadvantaged area of South Tyneside but Mr Scott is now recognised as a key influencer and advocate regionally and nationally.
“Mr Scott’s activities have included an award-winning model for community enterprise coaching, an Enterprise in Education project and creating partnerships to tackle the barrier between enterprise development and economic inactivity.”
Mr Scott said: “It will give us with new contacts and opportunities. Hopefully, it will get Tedco’s name more widely known.”
