Accountants Tait Walker have recruited former North East Chamber of Commerce chief operating officer, Chris McCourt.
Mr McCourt joins the Newcastle-based firm as associate partner on the Corporate Finance team, where he will be responsible for developing Tait Walker’s client base providing strategic guidance to businesses.
The 37-year-old from Gosforth brings with him over 10 years’ experience in corporate finance in the region, working across strategic advice and planning, finance raising and refinancing, and company acquisitions and disposals.
As the NECC’s first chief operating officer in March 2012, he was tasked with developing the financial and commercial focus of the business.
Mr McCourt, who is originally from County Durham, said: “Tait Walker is setting the pace for the North East accountancy industry – growth is high on the firm’s agenda whilst maintaining its personable reputation built over the years.
“I’m looking forward to helping regional businesses to explore the opportunities available to them, whilst working with some of the best people in the industry and contributing to the next phase of Tait Walker’s growth.”
Michael Smith, corporate finance partner at Tait Walker, said: “It has been a meeting of minds for us in terms of Chris’ future aspirations and those of the firm – we are on the same page with our objectives to help the region’s businesses.
“He is an incredibly exciting appointment for us as he brings with him a unique skillset – with both his commercial and finance backgrounds, combined with excellent contacts and exposure for Tait Walker to a new network of businesses.”
Tait Walker’s corporate finance team have made three appointments since January - including the recent promotion of Lucy Elliott who has worked for the firm for over 10 years, and was promoted to associate director of the department in summer 2014.
Andrew Moorby, managing partner at Tait Walker, added: “Not only have we been recruiting externally throughout 2014, we have seen a number of significant promotions for our existing staff.
“It is great to see our talented people rewarded for their hard work, as well as bring in fresh faces and skill sets to complement the existing staff framework and ultimately continue to better the service we provide to our clients. Chris is the perfect example of how we are striving to do this – we are delighted to welcome him into the firm and are excited about this next phase for Tait Walker.”
