A luxury yacht company has opened its first UK office in the North East following a deal to take on space in Gateshead.

Acting for South Shore Developments Ltd, Bilfinger GVA and their joint agent DTZ secured high profile tenant West Nautical, for 1,500sqft of office space in Building 2, West Tower, Baltic Place, on Gateshead Quays.

West Nautical is a 20-year-old, industry-leading yachting company which offers operational, technical management, corporate structure, full brokerage and charter services to super yacht owners and clients.

The company are experts in the luxury yachting field operating from offices in France and Russia, but chose Baltic Place as the perfect location to act as its operational centre for the yacht and project management team.

The firm, which has four employees in the Gateshead office with plans to double in size this year, said the Baltic Place office gives it clear strategic operational advantages.

The firm said the North East is a region known for low overheads and a high quality of life, meaning West Nautical can attract the best management talent yet can also offer clients an outstanding service with lower fees than competitors based in the South of France.

Its new base is within Baltic Place, which consists of 131,000sqft of Grade A office space over two eleven-storey tower blocks, linked by a shared reception foyer with underground parking below, alongside the Sage Gateshead Music Centre and Baltic.

Geoff Moore, managing director of West Nautical, said: “This represents a major investment by the company ensuring we provide a superb service and exceptional value to our clients.

“We have several yachts in build and under management, as well as holding the central agency listings for various charter vessels.

“Newcastle is a superb place for our back-office operations to be based, and we are delighted to be making Baltic Place our home”.

Tony Wordsworth, director and head of office agency at Bilfinger GVA, Newcastle, said: “It is encouraging that Baltic Place meets all of the locational criteria of West Nautical to provide a high level of servicing to their existing and future clients within the UK and beyond.”
