Sunderland's Bridges shopping centre, which is home to over 100 retailers, has been named a ‘Cornerstone of the Community’ in Newcastle Building Society’s annual awards.
In the past year, the centre has raised more than £9,000 for its national charity partner, The MS Society, through a variety of events such as a pancake flipping competition, get fit challenge and its popular indoor beach.
The centre’s management is also working closely with Sandhill View School as part of its Year to Make a Difference campaign, offering career advice, mentoring and guidance to the students in a bid to bring positive changes to future generations in the North East.
Retail liaison manager John Green said: “The team is over the moon to receive this fantastic award.
“This is an award for everyone in the centre and for all of our shoppers who have supported the Bridges and has helped shape it into the success it is today.
“Community involvement is big on the agenda at the Bridges.”
The centre is owned by real estate investment trust Land Securities.
