The FTSE 100 closed up 15.1 points on Monday at 6172.4. On the upside miner Lonmin rose 106p to 2809p as commodities prices rebounded from recent falls. Life and Pensions company Standard Life climbed 4.75p to 286 as its investment arm Standard Life Investments has attracted £780m into its Select Property fund, doubling initial estimates.
Commercial broadcaster ITV gained 1.5p to 102p on the back of rumoured private equity interest. Meanwhile software company Sage finished up 5.5p at 255p.
On the downside, British Energy plunged 132p to 427.5p after revealing that it has found cracks in boiler tubes at a second Nuclear power station.
Elsewhere, hedge fund manager Man Group slid 8p to 468p and retailer Next closed down 4p at 1924p.
