A COUPLE have taken over the running of their local Post Office, and have been happy to tell its six staff their jobs are secure.
Andy and Caroline Brown are now in place at Front Street Post Office in Stanley, after spending more than a year negotiating the terms.
Mrs Brown will run the shop while her husband continues in his full time job in the pharmaceuticals industry.
The mother-of-four said: “The whole process has taken about a year and a half, but we’re glad things are moving along and we can get straight down to business.
“The Post Office has been a cornerstone of the community for many years and we will be looking to maintain and diversify the business.”
Mr Brown added: “It’s the perfect acquisition for us as it not only allowed me to continue working full-time but allowed Caroline get back into work after bringing the children up and to be in control of our own business.”
The couple worked with North East law firm Gordon Brown Law Firm LLP to thrash out the terms of the deal.
Commercial property solicitor Martin Donnelly said: “Running a Post Office is a great way to get into business. They are lower risk than a pure retail outlet and there is also a guaranteed income and footfall to continue growing ancillary retail aspects of the business.
“It’s fantastic to be able to support such a valued local facility, particularly when such traditional small businesses are becoming increasingly rare.
“Andy and Caroline are new clients to Gordon Brown Law Firm. It’s great to see them setting up their first business together and I fully expect to see this business thrive.”
