Staff from one of the North East’s biggest agencies have been helping underprivileged children this Christmas.
Instead of staff at Temp-Team buying secret Santa gifts for their colleagues, they have instead been filling shoe boxes with toys and other items for children in poverty-stricken parts of the world. The company, which has branches in Newcastle, Newton Aycliffe, Sunderland, Teesside and Scunthorpe, is supporting Operation Christmas Child, the charity initiative which encourages people to fill shoe boxes with toys, educational items, hygiene items and sweets before Christmas.
Once filled, the parcels are sent to some of the world’s poorest countries and handed out to children.
Emma Crocher, branch manager of Temp-Team’s Newcastle office, said: “We thought this would be a great way of giving something back this Christmas. The shoe boxes go to several countries that need it most, not just one, and so hopefully it has a real difference to the lives of the children it supports.”
As well as Operation Christmas Child, Temp-Team has this year continued its ongoing support of Willowburn Hospice, which cares for people with incurable illnesses.
Summer and Christmas fairs, the Great North Run and recycling-related fundraisers are among the many activities staff have undertaken to support the County Durham charity.
