A HIGH-FLYING solicitor has given up the corporate arena to create luxury artisan chocolates in time for Easter.

Steven Greenwood, formerly of Newcastle firm Muckle LLP, has launched Cocoretto Chocolates, based at the Tedco Business Centre in Jarrow.

As a corporate finance solicitor, Greenwood says he often found himself longing to run his own business.

He said: “When I struggled to find a high-quality artisan chocolate gift in my local area I began researching how to turn my passion for chocolate into a viable business.

“Cocoretto Chocolates was officially launched after many months of hard work choosing and refining my ideas and undertaking training with specialist chocolatiers in the UK.

“The company focuses on creating a very high quality product range made from the finest couvertures and fresh ingredients for a refined taste experience.

“I take inspiration from many areas when creating the Cocoretto product range; anything from cocktails to childhood memories can lead to a new creation. I am always keen to experiment as much as possible with different flavours but I temper my experimental side with a range of more traditional favourites such as dark truffles and sea salt caramels.”

Greenwood is now trading online at from his base in Jarrow and is looking ahead to the run-up to Easter, one of the busiest times in the chocolate calendar.

With a longer-term plan to grow the Cocoretto brand through a range of regional and national food markets and in selected stores throughout the North, Greenwood has plans to eventually expand into a retail premises which would allow more bespoke chocolate products across a range of food and drink types.

Tedco has units available to cater for businesses from a range of sectors, including manufacturing and light assembly.

Amy Doonan, centre manager at Tedco Business Centre, said: “Tedco Business Centre has a diverse range of tenants which is in large part attributed to our ability to support the needs of businesses of all sizes and sectors.

“We have manufacturing and light assembly units available as well as a good range of office units.

“This means that we can support any business that has one or two desks, up to a larger-scale manufacturing business that has equipment and machinery. Cocoretto is just one example of the interesting businesses here at Tedco Business Centre and we look forward to helping support Steven with new and exciting ways to achieve his ambitions of making Cocoretto the premier name in luxury artisan chocolate in the region.”
